MYCN is a member of the MYC family expressed in the nervous system, whose deregulation plays a key role in childhood malignancies such as neuroblastoma and medulloblastoma. Activation of MYCN by amplification or overexpression is frequently observed in these cancers and is associated with advanced, often incurable diseases. There is a great interest in elucidating downstream genes and signalling pathways modified by MYCN in paediatric cancers, to identify new therapeutic targets.
