   Brief Profile
Prof. Denise Manahan-Vaughan
Ruhr University Bochum, Germany

Brief Biography
Dr. Manahan-Vaughan’s research focusses on the characterisation of synaptic plasticity as a cellular mechanism for learning (in the healthy and diseased brain). Hippocampal long-term potentiation and long-term depression are studied in particular. A mulitidisciplinary approach is implemented that incorporates: in vivo electrophysiology in freely moving rats and mice, in vitro electrophysiology of the hippocampal slice, behavioural paradigms of learning (Holeboard, Radial maze, Plus-Maze, Watermaze), Biochemistry (Western blotting, Immunohistochemistry) and Histology.
