Carina has started her studies within a School of Music, in Portugal, where she enrolled courses for 14 years and acquired an immense musical and cultural knowledge.
In 2007, she entered the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria to initiate her studies in Bio-mechanical Engineering, where she graduated in 2010. During this period Carina has developed several projects related to biomimetics, handicapped accessibility, optimized prosthetic devices, and was invited by the board of professors to patent a climbing/hiking high-tech prototype.
During her bachelor degree Carina has also attended extra curricular classes in International Business and Management where she became passionate about the business world.
At the age of 21 and aspiring to explore the world she has traveled to Switzerland as a starting point. Shortly after she was invited to initiate an internship at Frontiers Media SA, in Lausanne. Willing to enroll in a MBA after the internship, she has postponed such project after being offered the Journal Manager position within the same company. She has then started managing a small team of 2 persons. Later in 2012, her CEO, Kamila Markram, presented her the opportunity of becoming a Project Manager, where her responsibilities would change drastically. Currently she is the team lead of the core business team and coordinates a team of 16 persons, where several areas of research such as Genetics, Chemistry, Bio-engineering and even Psychology, among others, are promoted.
She is also responsible for coordinating several projects between different teams at Frontiers. IT projects, product development, business analysis, processes of optimization and training of new staff are a few of Carina's weekly tasks.
Despite Carina's current professional activities she continuously keeps enrolling in academic courses, web-conferences and of course always looking for a good challenge. Carina is a quick self-learner.
