Frontiers’ websites, and their access and use by all visitors, are governed by the Frontiers Terms and Conditions, which you must read and accept as a condition to using Frontiers’ websites.
The data controller for personal data collected via Frontiers’ websites can be contacted at email@example.com. The data controller is the person or organization which controls the purposes for which your personal data is used, and the means used to process and protect that information.
What information do we collect?
In order to provide you with our services, we may collect and keep a record of personal information about you from Frontiers’ websites. This information may include general information such as your IP address, date/time of the access, details of files or pages consulted, page from which the access took place, top level of the domain name (.com, .ch, etc), internet navigator and operating system used.
Registration with Frontiers automatically includes registration for Loop and vice-versa. If you opt to register we will ask for, and keep, certain personal information. There will also be optional feedback forms, for which (if you choose to respond) you may be asked to provide additional information. We may keep track of some of the activities you carry out on the Frontiers websites, such as posting material, creating events, viewing Frontiers pages, etc. We may retain the details of transactions or payments you make on Frontiers. We may collect information about you from the activities of other Frontiers users, such as when a user invites you to an event.
How will we use your information?
The data collected from use of Frontiers’ websites by any user is kept for statistical purposes. The reading activity of registered users on our publication platform is also used for the Democratic Evaluation System, and may be used to provide personalized views and services to you.
The data collected during the registration process is kept for identification purposes and is for Frontiers’ and its licensees’ and subcontractors’ use only (unless you set your privacy settings to allow others to see your information). The data collected may be kept and used by Frontiers and Frontiers’ licensees and subcontractors, as well as Frontiers Research Foundation, a not-for-profit Swiss foundation, inside and outside Switzerland or your country of residence, for non-commercial and commercial purposes. Your basic information (usually name and email address) will be exchanged with Loop partner organisations for the sole purpose of checking profiles and identities. The data collected will not be communicated to other third parties, except Frontiers’ licensees and subcontractors. Frontiers will not sell or otherwise disclose your personal information to third parties except as described above.
Information available online (on Frontiers Websites)
If you choose to register, please select in your profile on Loop which of your personal information you wish to be visible on Frontiers’ websites. If you do not make a specific selection of privacy level in your profile, the default settings will be used, which give different protection levels to different types of personal information. You may withdraw, reduce or widen your authorization at any time by notifying your data publicity status in your Loop profile; however, the privacy settings selected may affect your ability to fulfil certain functions within Frontiers.
The two levels of privacy described above also apply to any activity you carry out on the Frontiers websites, such as posting material, creating events, etc.
Certain information relating to authors of articles published by Frontiers must be displayed publicly. This is dealt with in the Frontiers Terms and Conditions.
In common with many other website operators, we may use standard technology called 'cookies' on this site. Cookies are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive. Our cookies enable us to identify you and to store information about the services you use on your visits. Most browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually change your browser to prevent cookies being stored. Transfer and use of your information to and in other countries and to third parties
The server on which Frontiers’ websites are hosted may be outside the country from which you access this website and may be outside your country of residence. Due to the manner in which information is transferred on the Internet, it is likely that information exchanged between you and Frontiers will be routed via other servers in different countries.
Your information may be transferred across country borders, potentially to countries where data protection laws provide a lower level of protection than in your country of residence. Frontiers uses third-party service providers, for example to manage user support requests, and to enable those services to be provided, it may be necessary to transfer some personal data, including an automatic transfer of emails to such providers. By submitting any personal information to Frontiers you consent to such transfer. You should also be aware that, since your articles and (depending on your privacy settings) your profile information, are visible to users in almost every country in the world, which means that your data is necessarily transferred to those countries.
We take the security of your personal information seriously. We have security procedures in place to protect our visitor and user databases from loss and misuse, and only allow access to it when necessary, and then under strict guidelines as to what use may be made of the personal information contained within it.
Frontiers’ websites may contain links to other websites. We have no control over and are not responsible for the content of, privacy policies or security of such sites. We recommend that you check the privacy and security policies of each website you visit.
