Argyrosomus regius is a new specie in aquaculture with limited knowledge of the timing of appearance and development of its immune system during ontogeny development, important to prevent disease outbreaks. The first step is to determine the appearance of the lymphoid organs, so that prophylactic measures can be applied, thus individuals acquire resistance instead of tolerance. This study evaluated the appearance of lymphoid organs in meagre larvae reared at two different temperatures (15±0.7 and 18±0.5°C). The larvae were obtained from a natural spawn of F1 meagre broodstock maintained in the IPMA’s (Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere) Aquaculture research station (EPPO). The larval rearing was performed in cylindroconical tanks, in duplicate with an initial density of 26 larvae L-1. The photoperiod was 14h-10h light-dark and the water renewal started at 15%.h-1 increasing up to 40%.h-1 with larval growth and development in an open system. The green water method was applied, from 3 days’ post hatching (DPH) to 10 DPH, the larvae were fed with rotifers (Brachionus spp.). Artemia was provided since 8 DPH and the inert feed was introduced at 9 DPH. Both, rotifers and Artemia were enriched with RedPepper ® (Bernaqua TM) before provided. Samples were collected daily for total length (mm), dry weight (mg) and histology. After 20 DPH , larvae presented a higher length (6.67±0.56 mm) in the 18°C treatment compared with the larvae from 15°C treatment (4.77±0.38 mm). Further, it will be verified if the differences in growth were followed by an earlier lymphatic organs appearance, in order to define the prophylactic measures to be applied in larvae rearing protocols.
