Growth patterns of three nudibranchs species (Family Polyceridae) in Gran Canaria (Canary Islands)

The growth of Plocamopherus maderae, Polycera elegans and Thecacera pennigera, nudibranchs species of the family polyceridae in the waters of Gran Canaria (Canary Islands) is studied. The specimens were weighed and photographed. Some morphometric measurements (maximum length, maximum width, area and perimeter body) of each individual were obtained using the FIJI software, an advanced development program of Image-J. Plocamopherus maderae showed a relatively high growth rate (K = 0.4), with 3 or 4 cohorts that interact simultaneously in the area, and whose temporal evolution indicated that the species can reach a maximum size (L∞) of 56.70 mm. Polycera elegans showed 2 to 4 simultaneous cohorts, whose progression over time also recorded a very high growth rate (K = 5.8), reaching a maximum size (L∞) of 31.50 mm. Similarly, Thecacera pennigera also presented a relatively high growth rate (K = 1.2) with an asymptotic length of 25.20 mm.
