The FAB battery (Dubois et al., 2000) assesses different cognitive abilities related to frontal lobe functions, and has been validated in neurological pathologies such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease (Iavarone et al., 2004; Kenangil et al., 2010; Kugo et al., 2006; Nakaaki et al., 2007 ). The aim of the present study was to adapt and validate the FAB instrument to assess cognitive disabilities in a Spanish group of patients with Parkinson’s disease. We reviewed the articles having used the FAB battery with the following descriptors: ‘Frontal Assessment Battery’, ‘validate’ and ‘reliability’. We found a total of 14 articles, one of them in a Spanish sample, which was a preliminary study without standard procedure to adapt or validate the battery. We translated and back translated it and elaborated the definitive version with an expert discussion group, taking into account three other versions used in neurological hospitals from Alicante and Chile. The results show that the new and definitive FAB for Spanish populations includes different three parts: 1) a questionnaire with a new way to collect the answers, 2) general instructions 3) other specific instructions including scoring instructions. We are currently planning the use of the battery in a pilot study with Parkinson’s disease Spanish patients to study the reliability and validity properties. To conclude, it is necessary to have a brief instrument adapted for Spanish people with cognitive disabilities allowing fast screening. It would be a useful tool as a first step for frontal lobe dysfunction diagnosis.
