Nanotechnology & Nanomedicine

Nanotechnology is an emerging technology with a great potential in information and communication technology, biology and biotechnology, medicine and medical technology. etc. Specifically in the medical field, the safety and efficacy of medical devices, nanosystems and nanodevices can be accomplished by novel nanotechnological approaches where the understanding of the interactions between materials and biomatter is achieved, leading to the improvement of human health. Therefore, products based on nanotechnology in medicine will have an anticipated positive impact to our life, in the coming years. In this talk, an overview of the different types of nanomaterials used in Nanomedicine and especially in the field of Cardiology will be introduced. Sophisticated optical and nanoscale precision techniques will be presented demonstrating the real-time monitoring of the bio-interactions with the nanomaterials. An example of the investigation of haemocompatibility of carbon- based materials for applications in Nanomedicine and especially for cardiovascular applications, will be also discussed.
