Imagery Therapy for Pain Control Using Computer Generated Virtual Reality

Computer are widely used in medical applications. In this paper we embark on a quest to demonstrate the computer contributions in pain control and particularly for burn patients. The research study presented herein shows the power of computer games and virtual reality (V.R.) in alleviating pain. Severe burns are considered to be one of the most painful disease. Patients require daily care for wounds cleaning and physical therapy for skin stretching. As a consequence of discomfort, majority of burn patients report severe pain during wounds care. Imagery therapy is introduced in this stage for patients to lose concentration and refocus their attentions to a comfort virtual world. This paper is targeting imagery therapy for children in the age of 5-12.
