Event Abstract

A software suite for processing functional and anatomical neuroimages

  • 1 Cuban Neuroscience Center, Cuba

The use of neuroimages in cognitive neuroscience has been increasing during last years, mainly through event related potentials (ERP) obtained with electrical/magnetic recordings and fMRI. Being able to locate as precisely as possible the location of activation regions in real anatomy has become a necessity in current research in cognitive neuroscience. In this work, a software suite composed by three different applications for carrying out the processing of functional and anatomical neuroimages is presented. The suite includes the Image Processor, the Tomographic Viewer and the 3D Viewer applications. The Image Processor is oriented in particular for processing anatomical images for brain electrical tomography (volumetric and over surfaces) calculation and visualization. Moreover it is possible also to process in a quick and easy way anatomical images for producing 3D topographic maps. It can be used too for radiological interpretation and basic morphometry. The Tomographic Viewer is a system designed for evaluating the Brain Electrical Tomography with possibilities and tools oriented to extract a full understanding of this functional tomography in two and three dimensions. The 3D Viewer visualizes functional neuroimages over surfaces extracted from anatomical images. It is able to display (always in 3D) topographic maps, surface fields (calculated tomographies over surfaces), NIRs (Near InfraRed spectroscopy) maps, connectivity maps as well as fiber tracking information from diffusion MRI. Additional surfaces and different geometric objects can be displayed too. All the applications are able to work with images in DICOM, NIfTI, ANALYZE and other formats also.
