Frontiers Announcement

Dear Colleague,

I am delighted to announce the launch of a new open access journal, Frontiers in Immunology, which is part of the Frontiers Journal Series, a novel and revolutionary academic publishing system.

Despite its recent launch, Frontiers in Immunology has already been selected as the official journal of the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS).

MISSION STATEMENT - Immunology has evolved only within the past century, and the science itself has changed from initial experiments in the first half of the 20th century using whole animals monitoring antibody activities and inflammatory cutaneous reactions, to the in vitro identification, enumeration and manipulation of the various cells comprising the system in the 1960s and 1970s, to the identification of the important molecules that are responsible for directing the behavior and function of the cells in the 1980s, to genetic approaches altering the expression of the molecules in whole animals since the 1990s. As such, there is now a fairly complete picture of what happens when an antigen is introduced. However, exactly how the changes in the molecules direct changes in the cells, and how the systemic immune response is organized, regulated and orchestrated remain obscure. Thus, in immunology, the work of Linnaeus has been accomplished; now the work of Darwin begins.

Frontiers in Immunology publishes articles on the most outstanding discoveries across the entire research spectrum of Immunology. The mission of Frontiers in Immunology is to bring all relevant specialties in Immunology together on a single platform. It is, therefore, composed of the many specialty sections listed below:

The following article types are welcome: original research articles, clinical case studies, review articles, hypothesis and theory articles, methods articles, commentaries, perspective articles, opinion articles, book reviews and conference proceedings.

Frontiers in Immunology brings you the excitement of immunological research at the dawn of the third millennium. Be among the first to publish!

If you have any questions or comments, do not hesitate to contact me or the Frontiers Editorial Office (immunology.editorial.office@frontiersin.org).

I look forward to receiving your article for review!

more about frontiers

Frontiers operates on a tier publishing system. Starting with the most specialized areas of academia, the first real-time review system in publishing operates to ensure a rapid and high-quality review process in which reviewers are given a fresh new mandate and responsibility. After undergoing rigorous peer-reviewing, automated Internet analytics allow the entire community to participate in evaluating the novelty and the significance of the published research. The most outstanding research is highlighted as prestigious Frontiers Focused Reviews in the field journal.

This Frontiers initiative is a grass-roots project that started in the neuroscience community in 2007, as a reaction to the severe restriction of knowledge distribution imposed by subscription publishing models, as well as the relatively old-fashioned and low-tech services offered to researchers. Within the first two years, Frontiers became one of the fastest-growing open access publishers and it is now run by almost 15,000 of the world's top scientists.

Frontiers has successfully launched 12 online journals and the IT platform of Frontiers is rapidly innovating to bring researchers more functionalities, services and transparency in the processing of their articles than any other publisher. Our journals receive well above 400,000 monthly views and their free resources are used regualrly by about 100,000 researchers worldwide.

The twenty-first century is demanding a new approach to scholarly publishing - and Frontiers is the solution!
