The study explores the mechanisms of intergenerational transmission of children's emotional regulation strategies, examining the potential chain-mediated effect of integrating self-efficacy with adversity quotient. The aim is to provide new theoretical evidence for understanding negative emotional regulation strategies in children. The sample consisted of 428 mothers of children aged 7 to 12 who were recruited to participate in the study through a cross-sectional survey. Each participant completed a survey about parental Emotional Regulation Questionnaire, adversity quotient questionnaire, self-efficacy questionnaire, and children's Emotional Regulation Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) in AMOS 26.0, and mediation effect analysis using Bootstrap method. Results: (1) Maternal emotional regulation strategies are significantly positively correlated with the emotional regulation strategies, adversity quotient, and self-efficacy of children (r=0.146~0.369, p<0.05). (2) Self-efficacy is positively correlated with children's emotional regulation strategies (r=0.218, 0.084, p<0.01). (3) Adversity quotient and self-efficacy mediated the intergenerational transmission of emotional regulation strategies, with effect values of 4.37% and 12.34%, respectively. Additionally, the combined chain-mediated effect of the two was 1.03%. Conclusion: Maternal emotional regulation strategies are crucial influencing factors on children's emotional regulation strategies. We can reduce the frequency of use of maladaptive emotional regulation strategies by increasing children's adversity quotient and self-efficacy.
