Biogas has emerged as an important renewable energy source, particularly for developing countries that are largely dependent on the agricultural economy. Hence, it is imperative to elucidate a facile energy policy for the unhindered implementation of this green energy technology. This manuscript delineates the opportunities and challenges involved in the implementation of biogas production using different biogas plant designs and feedstocks. The survey report, prepared based drawn from on interviews conducted with different stakeholders involved in biogas plant development and policy implementation, is reported in the current manuscript and provides solutions for policy lagging, particularly relevant to the rural areas of the North Indian region.
