No specific treatment or vaccines is yet available for HAdV infection. Sargassum fusiforme, an edible seaweed, has attracted many attentions for its various bioactivity. Sargassum fusiforme has been reported to exhibit antiviral activity. While researches about its anti HAdV activity were few. Here, our research found that Sargassum fusiforme with low cytotoxicity and possess anti-HAdV7 activity in vitro, and the most effective ingredient was alginate. Time of addition assay demonstrated that inhibitory effects were observed in all virus life stages. In addition, we observed that the antiviral activity of alginate against HAdV7-infection might be closely related to ERS pathway. Taken together, these results suggested that Sargassum fusiforme extracts has potential application in the prevention and treatment of HAdV infection.
