Biofilms is a specialty section within the field journal Frontiers in Cellular and infection Microbiology, publishing high quality research that expands our knowledge and understanding of the biofilm lifestyle of microorganisms in and on human, animal and plant hosts. We accept studies aimed at understanding the mechanisms of biofilm formation associated with hosts as well as the causes and consequences of these biofilms/host cell interactions. We encourage submission of research at the interface between fundamental and clinical research to diagnose, prevent and mitigate both native tissue- and medical device-related biofilm infections. Research involving in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro models related to the biofilm lifestyle of pathogenic microorganisms are welcome.
