The Chemical Engineering section publishes high-quality fundamental and applied work across all areas of chemical engineering. This interdisciplinary forum brings together communities of chemists and chemical engineers working to ensure the crucial role of chemical engineering in today’s world. Topics covered by the section include, but are not limited to:
· Biochemical engineering
· Materials synthesis and processing
· Particle technology and fluidization
· Process systems engineering
· Reaction engineering, kinetics and catalysis
· Separation processes and materials
· Thermodynamics and molecular-scale phenomena
· Transport phenomena including fluid mechanics
· Environmental chemical engineering
This section is particularly interested in applications of chemical engineering to emerging fields such as nanotechnology and materials, biotechnology, biomedicine and environmental sustainability. Studies that consider multiple scales or demonstrate a molecular design/optimization strategy for targeting specific functionality or performance are particularly encouraged.

Chemical and Process Engineering welcomes submissions of the following article types: Correction, Data Report, Editorial, General Commentary, Hypothesis and Theory, Methods, Mini Review, Opinion, Original Research, Perspective, Review, Specialty Grand Challenge and Technology and Code.
All manuscripts must be submitted directly to the section Chemical and Process Engineering, where they are peer-reviewed by the Associate and Review Editors of the specialty section.
Articles published in the section Chemical and Process Engineering will benefit from the Frontiers impact and tiering system after online publication. Authors of published original research with the highest impact, as judged democratically by the readers, will be invited by the Chief Editor to write a Frontiers Focused Review - a tier-climbing article. This is referred to as "democratic tiering". The author selection is based on article impact analytics of original research published in all Frontiers specialty journals and sections. Focused Reviews are centered on the original discovery, place it into a broader context, and aim to address the wider community across all of Chemistry.
