Abstract

The performance of the desalination unit was found from the period from April-2024 to July-2024 and all the measurements were taken from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm. The experimental set-up was done in the place of South Tamilnadu at Vasudevanallur, Tamilnadu, India (south) (9.23oN, 77.42oE). The desalination unit yield is very minimal without using any energy storage material. The solar still basin is added with thermal energy storage materials and absorbs the solar heat energy to increase its thermal capacity. It is made of black lime stone and covered with a top glass cover at an inclination angle of 45° with a depth of 25 mm salty water level in the basin. The distillate output was increased by the construction of a black lime stone basin with different thermal energy storage materials being placed in the basin, such as Granite, Marble and Graphite. The experiment results proved that the granite-based materials gave a maximum yield of 2.620 L/m2/day more than the rest of other energy storage materials.
