Participants were 282 HL (14.58 ± 3.42 years old) and 350 TH (11.69 ± 2.49 years old). EU was measured by four visual-mode tasks. Parents reported positive and negative emotional expressivity on the Self-Expressiveness in the Family Questionnaire. Covariates were controlled for including parent gender, youth gender, age, intelligence, and teach-reported comprehension difficulties. Results showed that the HL underperformed the TH on all the EU tasks but a similar level of difference across these four tasks was found. The hearing parents of the HL did not differ from the hearing parents of the TH on either positive or negative emotional expressivity. Regression analyses revealed that negative emotional expressivity was negatively related to EU in the HL but not in the TH. In conclusion, this study extends the knowledge of EU and parental emotional expressivity in Chinese HL.
