Thus, prior studies investigated the psychological factors that influence entrepreneurial orientation, for instance, entrepreneurial self-efficacy. However, prior studies presented two opposite views on the relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial orientation. To reconcile this problem, we employ the social cognitive theory and collected 220 valid responses from CEOs of different regions of China to clarify the effect of entrepreneurial self-efficacy, top management team (TMT) collective efficacy, and CEO–TMT interface on entrepreneurial orientation. Our findings show that entrepreneurial self-efficacy positively affects entrepreneurial orientation. In addition, we found that a higher level of TMT collective efficacy strengthens the positive relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial orientation. Moreover, TMT collective efficacy has a more substantial moderating effect on the relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial orientation under a high CEO–TMT interface. Our study not only extends entrepreneurial orientation literature by providing new insight into the psychological mechanism of entrepreneurial self-efficacy and TMT collective efficacy on entrepreneurial orientation from the perspective of CEO-TMT interface but also opens the window of opportunities for CEOs and decision-makers to maintain a sustainable position in the market and grasp more opportunities in uncertain conditions by entering into the new market or introducing a new product or venture.
