TITLE=Post-COVID-19 fatigue and health-related quality of life in Saudi Arabia: a population-based study JOURNAL=Frontiers in Public Health VOLUME=Volume 11 - 2023 YEAR=2023 URL=https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/public-health/articles/10.3389/fpubh.2023.1254723 DOI=10.3389/fpubh.2023.1254723 ISSN=2296-2565 ABSTRACT=Based on a comprehensive analysis of the existing literature, it has been established that research studies on the persistence of symptoms after recovery from acute COVID-19 infection have been conducted in various regions worldwide. However, the investigation into the prevalence of post-COVID fatigue has been limited in number and scope, with the majority of studies utilizing general questionnaires consisting of only one item for the assessment of fatigue, as opposed to more detailed and precise multi-item questionnaires. Additionally, although non-hospitalized COVID-19 patients represent a significant proportion of the population in comparison to hospitalized patients, the current body of information largely focuses on the latter group. Moreover, reports concerning the persistence of symptoms following recovery from acute COVID-19 infection in Saudi Arabia are limited, and no inquiry has yet explored post-COVID fatigue and HRQoL. The purpose of our study was to assess post-COVID-19 fatigue (PCF) in COVID-19 survivors of Saudi Arabia using a comprehensive questionnaire with multiple items that are concise and efficient in nature to identify potential risk factors that contribute to its persistence and resultant quality of life. Our research emphasizes the significance of continuous monitoring for COVID-19 survivors. It suggests the need to improve awareness among patients and enhance their quality of life. Additionally, this research paper aims to highlight the importance of considering post-COVID-19 fatigue (PCF) as a distinct condition that requires specialized care and attention. Ultimately, our goal is to contribute to the existing body of knowledge and provide an evidence-based understanding of the potential long-term effects of post-COVID-19 fatigue. This would enable medical practitioners to adopt a more precise approach in selecting appropriate strategies to optimize the care of post-COVID-19 patients.
