The Short-and Long-Term Prognostic Analysis of Supraclavicular Oblique Incision Versus Traditional Low-Collar Incision in Thyroidectomy

Background: Thyroidectomy is key in treating papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), and incision type affects patient recovery. Method: This retrospective study included 280 PTC patients undergoing thyroidectomy, divided into traditional low-collar incision (TLCIT) and supraclavicular oblique incision (SOIT) groups. Result: Demographic data, clinical features, and complications were compared. Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE) analyzed short-term outcomes (pain, swelling, heat sensation, neck discomfort) and long-term outcomes (quality of life [SF-36, EQ-5D], scar scores, anxiety/depression). SOIT reduced short-term pain, swelling, heat sensation, and neck discomfort more effectively than TLCIT. SOIT notably lowered pain at 1 week and improved heat sensation/neck discomfort by 1 month. Conclusion: Long-term, SOIT improved quality-of-life scores, reduced scar scores (3/6 months), and decreased anxiety (6 months). SOIT offers better short-and long-term outcomes than TLCIT for PTC patients.
