Abstract

Objective The aim of this study is to analyze the clinical characteristics, auxiliary examinations, and treatment measures of solitary neurofibromatosis of the transverse colon, and to enhance the clinical diagnostic ability of clinical doctors. Methods This paper reports a case of solitary neurofibroma of the transverse colon in a 23-year-old man without neurofibromatosis in the Gastroenterology Department, Wenzhou Central Hospital, Affiliated to Wenzhou Medical UniversityDepartment of Gastroenterology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, and makes a comprehensive analysis. Results The patient presented with the main symptoms of pain in the left middle abdomen and hematochezia. Colonoscopy and an enhanced computed tomography scan indicated a tumor in the transverse colon and intussusception. The mass was resected by laparoscopic surgery, and pathologically diagnosed as a neurofibroma. Conclusion This case is the first rare report of intussusception secondary to a neurofibroma of the transverse colon in a young adult man. It suggests that solitary neurofibroma can be a potential cause of intussusception in adults, and heightened vigilance is required in clinical practice.
