Preparation of nanocomposite films of silver-alginate was carried out through the casting method of colloidal nanocomposite silver alginate. Colloidal was made by chemical reduction of AgNO3 precursor salts using microvawe irradiation with alginate as a stabilizer as well as reducing agent and NaOH as an accelerator. The formation of silver nanoparticles was indicated by the appearance of LSPR phenomenon which was characterized using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer with shape and size were characterized using TEM. In addition, silver-alginate nanocomposite further was characterized using FTIR, XRD, and SEM with antibacterial activity was evaluated using diffusion method toward E. coli and S. aureus bacteria. The results showed that the formation of silver nanoparticles was characterized by the appearance of the LSPR phenomenon at the peak of 401 - 409 nm with spherical shape of 3-30 nm. The mechanical properties are influenced by the silver nanoparticle. The tensile strength tends to decrease due to the presence of silver nanoparticles, but the crystallinity was increased. The nanocomposite obtained has a rough and porous structure. The nanocomposite showed antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus and affected by the concentration of silver nanoparticles.
