This study is aimed at revealing the role of the aforementioned factors in shaping food affordability and availability in the country. The study utilised descriptive statistics, coefficients of variation and determination to ascertain the change in the trend of the factors and their correlates to food security over time. From our results, we inferred that temperature increases, political instability, rising food costs and erratic energy supply play poignant roles in the affordability, availability and stability of food. We conclude that a rapidly growing population such as Nigeria’s would need crucial intervention in increasing food production, mitigating climate change impacts and buffer energy supply. Ultimately, Nigeria needs to overhaul the important components of and linkage to her food systems in order to ensure food security of the population.
