I suppose that this is not the first time, nor will it be the last, although it seems to me that some questions are merely repackaged for consumption by new generations of students and scientists. I am not so sure about the so-called smart materials, but I imagine that advanced materials are novel materials purposefully designed to show improvements of properties or functions when compared to conventional materials.
