About this Research Topic
Big data is changing our lives. From climate change challenges to reforms in healthcare, big data is touted as the solution to many of the world’s most complex problems. In this perspective, data mining and knowledge discovery techniques, applied across many scientific disciplines, are essential to finding patterns within datasets whose volumes exceed the petabyte and exabyte level.
Cross-collaborations among researchers, practitioners, and policymakers push forward the boundaries on all aspects of knowledge discovery and data mining, ranging from theoretical foundations to novel models and algorithms for data mining problems in science, business, medicine, and engineering.
This Article Collection is focused on highlighting the topics that will influence thought, strategies, and norms in data mining and knowledge discovery research by articulating how to foster discussions and facilitate long-term progress of the field. Perspective and opinion papers presenting the views of how big data and knowledge discovery positively impact our society are welcome alongside Original Research, Mini Review, Review, Methods, and Technology and Code articles, to name but a few.
