Research Topic

Musculoskeletal Pain and Related Emotional Disorders

About this Research Topic

Musculoskeletal pain refers to ongoing pain originated from muscles, bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. Musculoskeletal pain is often debilitating, widespread and long-lasting and has a major impact on people’s daily life, including sleep interruption, fatigue, depressed mood, poor mobility, and cognitive impairment. Musculoskeletal pain and related emotional disorders including anxiety, depression and fear often persist together, however, the precise mechanisms for the comorbidity are still not clear, making it one of the most intractable clinical problems faced by clinicians and can be devastating for patients.
The purpose of this research topic is to publish high-quality research papers as well as review articles addressing recent advances in basic and clinical researches to elucidate the mechanisms underlying musculoskeletal pain and related emotional disorders. Original, high-quality contributions that are not yet published or that are not currently under review by other journals or peer-reviewed conferences are sought. A particular interest will be given to papers exploring or discussing the neurobiological or epigenetic mechanisms of pain and emotional disorders comorbidity as well as successful current therapeutic approaches.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
* Bone and joint pain and related emotional disorders (anxiety, depression, or fear)
* Myalgia and related emotional disorders (anxiety, depression, or fear)
* Tendon and ligament pain and related emotional disorders (anxiety, depression, or fear)
* Low back pain and related emotional disorders (anxiety, depression, or fear)
* Discogenic pain and related emotional disorders (anxiety, depression, or fear)
* Fibromyalgia and related emotional disorders (anxiety, depression, or fear)
* Tunnel syndromes and related emotional disorders (anxiety, depression, or fear)
* Comorbidity of joint and muscle pain and related emotional disorders (anxiety, depression, or fear)

Keywords: Musculoskeletal Pain, Emotional Disorders, Anxiety, Depression, Fear

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements.
