Professionals working at various positions in the built environment have been making great efforts to tackle COVID-19 around the world since the start of 2020. The fast accumulation of new data, information and knowledge in this global combat is a clear demonstration of the urgent need for sophisticated leadership and dependable solutions to support rapid responses, speedy recovery and sustainable safety at interconnected project stages across workplaces and urban clusters in the built environment. Within the research and practices for the dependable built environment, a new exploratory journey to eliminate the spread and transmission of coronaviruses has started around the world. It is crucial to keep the momentum going by incorporating new efforts for optimal solutions to inform both research and practices towards sustained success in the provision of construction management services.

This Research Topic is established in the Construction Management section at Frontiers in Built Environment (Electronic ISSN: 2297-3362) in September 2020. The Topic Editors would like to invite academic researchers and professional practitioners in related areas to participate in this initiative and aid in the combat against COVID‐19 through enhanced construction management within the built environment. The goal of this Research Topic is to showcase new convergent research and best practice studies focusing on managerial solutions at a strategic, tactical and operational level to tackle the pervasive attack of COVID-19 across various places and work stages in the lifecycle of buildings and civil infrastructures.

Specific themes under this Research Topic to be included, but not limited to, are listed below in the context of responses against COVID-19 through optimal approaches in construction management:
• Review of industry responses at a strategic, tactical and/or operational level;
• Practice and innovation in active design management;
• Considerate construction and operation at workplaces;
• Evidence-based learning from practices in the project lifecycle;
• Study on the best practices at various work stages;
• Proactive solutions for interconnected health, safety and security;
• Resource efficiency and waste minimization.
