About this Research Topic
Digital Biomaterials are defined as a substances or partial substances that are compatible with living systems and processed with digital technologies. New technology developments and breakthroughs in digital biomaterials have transformed dental and general healthcare. The discoveries of the special properties of biomaterials such as titanium, high strength ceramics and various polymeric composite materials enabled digital technologies such as CAD/CAM technology, 3D printing, artificial intelligence, 4D stereophotogrammetry and digital orthodontics, which are impactful to multiple aspects of healthcare functions, in particular, guided surgery, dentistry and regenerative medicine.
This Research Topic aims to highlight the most recent advancements of related technologies including CAD/CAM, 3D printing, big data, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital workflow, and involve the concept and design of digital biomaterials that support research and clinical needs, such as biocompatibility, accuracy, precision, and time of delivery. Thus, efficiency of dental and general healthcare is expected to be enhanced. The presented work should demonstrate the novelty of technologies and sciences that has the translational ability in clinical dentistry and healthcare.
