The use of UAS-based remote sensing has seen rapid growth over recent years. This Research Topic will cover recent advances in UAS-based remote sensing, paying attention to: 1) sensor integration, 2) system calibration, 3) potential applications, and 4) data analytics. Topics covered include, but are not limited to:
• Advances in platform/sensing technology and its impact on the adoption of UAS-based remote sensing to address the needs of a wide range of applications
• Innovative solutions to mitigate the imposed challenges by payload/cost constraints of UAS-based remote sensing
• Advances in system integration/calibration activities geared towards UAS-based remote sensing to address the requirements of the intended application (e.g., digital agriculture, infrastructure monitoring, environmental monitoring, transportation management, surveillance, etc.)
• Quality assurance and quality control of UAS-based remote sensing (i.e., guidelines and best practices for data acquisition and processing)
• UAS-based remote sensing adoption in non-traditional applications (e.g., mapping in tight spaces for infrastructure monitoring, mapping in GNSS-denied environments, seamless mapping of indoor/outdoor environments)
• Data analytics for information extraction from multi-modal/platform/scale/date remote sensing
