About this Research Topic
There is a vast array of literature available for some psychological disorders. For example, typing “Major Depression”, in an online search (i.e., OneSearch) provides more than 670,000 peer-reviewed papers, while searching for “Social Anxiety Disorder” (including social phobia) results in ~ 407,000 peer-reviewed papers. However, an online search for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (including the keyword OCD), reduces the search results to 81,000 peer-reviewed papers. Research on OCD-related disorders appears to be even sparser, with Body Dysmorphic Disorder receiving the most search results at only 12,800 peer-reviewed papers.
This Research Topic aims to prompt scholars to contribute to the advancement of knowledge about Obsessive-Compulsive Related Disorders. We would specifically encourage studies that adopt an internalizing perspective in the analysis of the features and correlates of Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Hoarding Disorder, Trichotillomania (Hair Pulling Disorder), Excoriation (Skin Picking) Disorder. We also encourage research about other new potential clinical disorders that are conceptualized as Obsessive-Compulsive related Disorders (such as Studyholism, or obsession toward study).
Concerning the types of manuscripts, with the exception of theoretical/opinion papers and narrative literature reviews, all types of papers and study designs with clinical or community samples are acceptable (e.g., experimental, correlational, cross-sectional, longitudinal, meta-analysis papers, qualitative methods, etc.). Psychometric papers concerning the development of new measures or the validation of existing scales also are acceptable because they are critical for further development of research in this field.
