Mine Engineering Geological Disaster Forecasting, Monitoring, and Prevention

With the development of mining engineering facing more and more complex geological conditions, the geological disasters during resource exploitation are more frequent. In the process of mineral resources exploitation, how to realize the prediction, monitoring and prevention of geological disasters have become a primary task to ensure safety of production.

In practice, due to the high in-situ stress, high temperature, high permeation pressure, complex geological structure, great mining depth, and large scale, the mine resources exploitation inevitably faces all kinds of geological disasters occur. As a result, a series of problems may be caused, such as coal and gas outbursts, roof accidents, mine water inrush, high and steep slope instability, mine earthquake, fault activation, surface subsidence, and water pollution. Therefore, how to solve the problems of mine engineering geological disasters has become increasingly prominent. Moreover, we know that the process of disaster gestation, occurrence and development during resource exploitation is closely related to the geological conditions, the properties of surrounding rocks and mining technology and so on. Correspondingly, the early forecasting, monitoring and prevention of mine engineering geological disasters are different from another geotechnical engineering. For complex conditions of mineral resources development, therefore, based on the studies of the regional geological characteristics, the ground stress state, the properties of surrounding rock and supporting strategy, the matching mine geology disaster theory, monitoring method and prevention technology should be researched, as to provide an important guarantee for safety and economic development of mine resources.

This Research Topic will be dedicated to publishing Original Research papers and Reviews that highlight advances and breakthroughs which are closely related to mining engineering geological disasters. We welcome both innovative papers and reviews covering a wide scope of the early forecasting, prediction, and protection of mine geological disasters, including mechanics of excavation instability, constitutive model of surrounding rocks, disaster prediction theory, monitoring and protection methods and technologies.
