In this era of rapidly evolving technology, science and medicine, only an approach based on a complex, multi-level network based on an Integrative Omics strategy including metabolomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, genomics, epigenomics, connectomics, microbiomics can contribute to a deep understanding of psychopathology and the development of personalized psychiatry.

Integration of multi-Omics technologies can provide a more comprehensive view of the interactions involved in the complex pathogenesis of mental diseases and disorders, richer resources to elucidate potential molecular mechanisms of disease, and ultimately improve clinical assessment and interventions in mental diseases and disorders to answer clinical questions about translational research from the lab to the bedside.

The integration of multi-Omics data now provides new insights to understand differences in antipsychotic treatment outcomes (i.e. positive symptoms, negative symptoms or cognitive impairment), and shortens the pathway to implement precise mechanism-based interventions.

This Research Topic builds on the above scenario with advances in human brain research available through new technologies offering the potential to transform mental health treatment and outcomes in the near future. Our aim is to combine combined, comprehensive, population-based multi-omics research in the functional context of brain behaviour for personalized treatment strategies in mental illness.

We welcome studies on (but not limited to) the following subtopics:

- The role of molecular mechanisms in shaping long-term trajectories leading to psychiatric disorders;
- Multi-omics strategy in personalized treatment line in mental illness.
