Synthetic chemistry not only plays a fundamental and key role in chemistry but also greatly promotes the progress of whole modern science. Over the past 100 years, synthetic polymer materials have greatly affected and changed human life. Today, polymer synthetic chemistry is still a rapidly evolving discipline driven by incredible ingenuity and innovation and provides various novel functional molecules and high-performance materials for the whole modern society, thanks to all the talented researchers working across the world, from renowned scholars to rising stars. It is anticipated that novel functional molecules and high-performance materials prepared by synthetic chemistry will continue to emerge and play significant roles in our production and life.

Undoubtedly, the power of modern polymer synthetic chemistry will continue to drive the emergence of new functional materials, which will enable a wide variety of applications. In view of this, the goal of this Research Topic is to highlight recent developments in synthetic chemistry for high-performance polymer materials. We wish to emphasize the importance of novel and efficient synthetic methods and mechanisms with catalysts for the colorful polymer material world. This includes extensively not only the advances in building new methodologies of polymer synthesis but also the mechanism of target products synthesis and application of synthetic products.

We welcome high-quality original research and (mini)review articles covering but not limited to the following five areas:
