About this Research Topic
In this Research Topic, two primary objectives are identified:
1. To know the outcomes (respiratory complications, in-hospital complications, sequelae, and mortality) in different pediatric patients with and without comorbidities treated in Latin American countries.
2. To identify the social and economic factors related to the provision of health services associated with worse outcomes.
The methodological designs of interest will be observational studies (cohort or cases and controls), clinical trials, and meta-analysis of the following topics related to the status of COVID-19 infection in the pediatric population of Latin America. This includes:
- Multicenter or national prognostic studies that identify clinical and sociodemographic variables
associated with complications and mortality from COVID-19.
- Comparison of therapeutic interventions in the treatment of COVID-19.
- Multicenter or national reports of complications and mortality in pediatric groups with comorbidities (congenital heart disease, cancer, neurological diseases, obesity, etc.).
- Cohort studies related to the multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) presentation of SARS‑CoV‑2.
- Studies of specific age groups such as infants and adolescents infected with SARS‑CoV‑2.
