About this Research Topic
Updates and new insights in the "Leptospira and Leptospirosis" field approaching clinical and epidemiological aspects of the disease, bacterial pathogenesis, new diagnostic tools and treatment, and immune responses are welcomed. Recent research that may shed light on Leptospira pathogenesis at the molecular and physiological level, and impact on the diagnosis and management of the disease are encouraged.
This Research Topic will cover:
i) aspects of Leptospira-host interactions: studies on the mechanisms by which Leptospira virulence factors target host cells and elicit immune responses, genetic and genomics, persistence and immune evasion;
ii) Leptospira ecology and epidemiology;
iii) clinical aspects and pathophysiology of human and animal leptospirosis
iv) vaccine and therapeutics research.
We welcome the submission of Original Research articles, Reviews, and Mini-Reviews, as well as Opinion pieces related to the field.
Keywords: Leptospira, Leptospirosis, Infection, Invasion, Immune Response, Bacterial Immune Evasion, Neglected Diseases, Bacterial Pathogenesis, Epidemiology
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
