Neglected and emerging infectious diseases afflict many countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America, with sub-saharan african countries in particular disproportionately bearing the burdens of many of these. The ongoing scientific research on the frontlines is currently poorly reflected in the global share of scientific publications. The importance of stakeholders in creating sustainable solutions to scientific problems is well-recognized, and there is a need to contextualize neglected and emerging diseases research from stakeholders' perspectives. Thus, we propose a collection that addresses this gap in knowledge with research from the frontlines. Contributions from all endemic regions are welcome, particularly encouraged are uniquely african approaches towards surveillance, diagnostics, and therapeutics development for emerging and neglected infectious diseases. We are also interested in the ongoing collaborative training programs that are generating the next generation of frontline researchers.
