Housing is a main sector in urban development that is of great importance to researchers and policy makers worldwide. It is a key factor for improving people’s quality of life and establishing a sustainable and resilient society. There are several urban and architectural design challenges in this context nowadays including physical and non-physical aspects of sustainable housing. For example, this includes offering a healthy housing environment in the post-pandemic era that could effectively improve people’s safety and enhance the feeling of belonging. Papers that critically address these challenges are particularly welcome to this special issue. In addition, innovative studies that tackle sustainable housing considering the different domains of sustainability are also welcome.

The goal of this special issue is to address the urban and architectural challenges in the context of sustainable and resilient housing. This includes environmental, social, and economic sustainability domains. This also includes the newly emerged challenges in the post-pandemic era. These topics include, but are not limited to:
• Environmental sustainability in housing;
• Social sustainability in housing;
• Economic sustainability in housing;
• Post-pandemic resilient housing;
• Sustainable housing urban design;
• Sustainable housing policy.
