In response to global climate change, China announced that its carbon dioxide emissions would reach the peak by 2030 and similarly to several other countries, they would strive to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2060. The effective utilization of energy is an important way in which to reduce carbon emissions. Currently, more than 50% of the primary energy consumed worldwide is lost as waste heat. The recovery and utilization of waste heat in various industries is an effective approach to conserving energy, reducing emissions, and improving economic benefits.

As different types of waste heat utilization and heat engines vary significantly in their physical origins, there is a critical need to further analyze and discuss the thermal economy of waste heat utilization, investigate the flow and heat transfer mechanisms, develop efficient energy storage technologies, and low carbon technologies.

This Research Topic aims to promote research on advanced technology in low carbon energy utilization. This is a multidimensional problem as it involves flow and heat transfer mechanisms in various heat exchange equipment, the efficiency and performance of advanced low carbon technologies and systems, and coupled energy storage technologies with present recovery and utilization of waste heat in various productions and operations of industries.

Topics of interest to be covered in this Research Topic include, but are not limited to:
• Waste and heat management
• Flow and heat transfer mechanisms (e.g. thermodynamic cycles)
• Advanced energy storage technologies
• Low carbon technologies and systems
• Thermal economic evaluation of waste heat utilization

The types of manuscripts we are interested in include, but are not limited to: Original Research, Review, Mini Review, Perspective, and Hypothesis and Theory.
