Antibiotic resistance is a global threat to human health. Mechanisms of resistance cause treatment failures, diagnostic difficulties and ambiguity in clinical interpretation of therapeutic outcomes. To fight this resistance, efforts needed include development of efficient vaccines, setting new treatment strategies, improving diagnostic tools for optimizing clinical decisions, and a better understanding of driving mechanisms.
In this Research Topic, it is important to explain about rational use of existing old antimicrobial drugs and combinational use of anti-resistance or antibiofilm strategies with antimicrobials as well as continuing development of new antimicrobial agents against antimicrobial resistance. Moreover, it is necessary to ensure sustainable investment in countering antimicrobial resistance, to optimize the use of antimicrobial medicines, and strengthen surveillance and research. Infection control is one of the important points which should not be ignored and become well-established in all the centers.
