Human health is the main core for a productive society and the overall well-being of the society and the world. Health disasters such as communicable and non-communicable diseases affect humanity. Untacked communicable diseases such as infectious diseases, drug-resistant microbial infections, and viral infections in addition to the recent pandemic surge, and non-communicable diseases such as chronic diseases in terms of cancer, diabetes, and inflammatory diseases, might lead to economical regression and affect human race evolution.

However, despite the advancement in medical strategies, many of these health problems are still not solved and continue to evolve leading to our current pandemic. This raises the need for the development of smart approaches to prevent, diagnose and treat such health problems. Accordingly, novel biological materials are a fast emerging and innovative approach to tackle most health problems from a creative perspective and can be expanded and manufactured on an industrial scale.

The overall goal is to develop, engineer and study, physical, chemical, and biological characterization of novel polymeric materials and composites for prevention, diagnosis/detection, and treatment of chronic diseases such as cancer, inflammatory diseases, and diabetic wounds.

The research topic welcomes submission of original research, review articles, mini-reviews, and perspectives about synthesis/formulation, functionalization, full physico-chemical-biological characterization, and application of novel polymeric materials and composites. The topics covered by this issue may include:

• Polymeric nanoparticulate formulations for controlled drug delivery.
• Polymeric nanofibers containing the active principle.
• Polymeric adsorbents of disease-causing pollutants.
• Polymeric materials for the immunotherapy of cancer and inflammatory diseases.
• Prevention, diagnosis/detection, and treatment of chronic diseases such as cancer, inflammatory diseases, etc.
• Tissue regeneration; wound healing, bone regeneration, etc.
