As a type of organic polymer, polyurethane (PU) has excellent engineering properties, including high corrosion resistance, high energy absorption, high elongation, chemical resistance, thermal stability, etc. At present, there are various types of PU products, for example, elastomers, foams, adhesives, coatings, sealants, waterproof materials. Up to now, PU has become one of the most rapidly growing polymer materials with a vast potential market and excellent development prospects.
According to the documented data, the global demand for PU materials in the single year of 2012 reached around 43.2 billion pounds, with an annual growth rate of nearly 7.4%. It can be predicted that this figure will rise to about 109.3 billion pounds in 2025. And the use of PU in civil engineering also increases rapidly.
So in recent years, the application of polyurethanes in construction and building attracts more and more attention. Many researchers all over the world are involved in this field. To widen the application of PU as an important construction material, a lot of issues need to be addressed, including the synthesis and characterisation of high-performance PU prepolymers, the need to reduce the cost of PU raw materials, formation of specifications for the PU-bonded mixture, PU modified asphalt and mixture. In addition, the anti-aging performance of PU sealants is always a great concern. On the other hand, environmental effect related to PU related materials are also of great concern. More and more attention has been given to the use of eco-friendly and renewable materials as the raw materials to prepare PU.
We invite various types of studies related the application of PU in construction and building mainly from three perspectives:1) The synthesis and characterisation of new high-performance PU or eco-friendly PU, especially used for civil engineering; 2) Research on the application of PU in pavement engineering, such as PU modified asphalt, PU modified cement concrete, PU concrete; 3) Research on the application of polyurethane in the field of waterproof coatings.
Potential papers might examine:
• Development of new high-performance, environment-friendly polyurethane used in engineering
• Influence of polyurethane on asphalt/cement properties and modification mechanism
• Development and novel polyurethane sealant, adhesives, and waterproof materials in civil engineering
• Polyurethane and its composite materials in civil engineering
• Polyurethane functional coatings
• PET and waste plastics
