About this Research Topic
The vestibular implant has been designed and is currently under investigation for the treatment of patients with bilateral vestibulopathy. A lot of research still has to be performed on many aspects of the vestibular implant. It is currently not yet available on the market.
The aim of this Research Topic is to investigate how the vestibular function is altered in cochlear and vestibular implantation. The aim is to invite any scientific contribution where the vestibular function is investigated in cochlear and vestibular implantation.
Therefore, for this Research Topic, we welcome contributions on, but not limited to:
- How is the vestibular function altered in cochlear and vestibular implantation?
- Are there any factors influencing the vestibular function in cochlear and vestibular implantation?
- Measuring the vestibular function in cochlear and vestibular implantation.

- Counseling of patients regarding cochlear and vestibular function alteration.
- Surgical techniques to control postoperative vertigo in cochlear and vestibular function.
- Treating of deafness and Meniere's disease by means of cochlear implantation.
- Treating bilateral vestibulopathy by means of cochlear and vestibular implantation.
- Imaging of the vestibular system after cochlear and vestibular implantation.
- Stimulation of vestibular receptors by the cochlear implant electrode.

- Are there any relationships with electrode type (pre-curved vs straight) position (perimodiolar, mid scala or lateral) electrode length, design, translocation to scala vestibuli or whether a round window or cochleostomy approach is performed?
