Rapid research advancements in electronics, biomedical, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and specialty chemicals have resulted in the environmental release of a large number of emerging pollutants. New and emerging pollutants (NEPs) are defined as xenobiotic organic chemicals that have recently been identified as potential threats to human health and the environment. NEPs is an umbrella term including antibiotics, antiepileptics, antidepressants, analgesics, anti-inflammatories, beta-blockers, cosmetics, disinfectants, microbeads, microplastics, etc. There is a rising level of concern regarding the fate and behaviour, human and animal health impact, and environmental pollution caused by these xenobiotic NEPs. In light of the potential effect of these organic pollutants, urgent action is required not only to understand the potential risks associated with these chemicals, but also for the development of novel approaches for sustainable remediation.

The goal of the current Research Topic is to fill the knowledge gap regarding the environmental impact and health risks associated with NEPs, and recent advancement in developing environment friendly strategies for their effective remediation. The present collection will provide an in-depth understanding of pollution caused by these substances and sustainable technologies for their environmental remediation. The Research topic will also address the aspects of green chemistry for the removal of these pollutants. Further, it will also focus on developing innovative tools for the prediction of bioremediation and environmental degradation. Additionally, the collection aims to prioritize the development of integrative-sustainable measures for the efficient remediation of NEPs from the environment.

This Research Topic is proposed to act as a platform for researchers from multiple disciplines to share their work related to remediation strategies of NEPs. Desired submissions include Original Research, Review, Mini Review, and Perspective articles on themes including, but not limited to:
• Sustainable clean-up technologies for the remediation of NEPs in contaminated systems.
• Green chemistry for environmental remediation of new and emerging pollutants through chemical catalysis and biocatalysis.
• Integrated remediation packages for sustainable clean-up of NEPs-contaminated system.
• Mechanisms for the bioremediation of NEP's
