The circular economy as a business model emphasizes the importance of maximizing the use of resources and the life cycle of products; the promotion of greener circular economies aims to reduce pressure on natural resources and increase the sustainability of value chains. The circular aspect of the economic approach enables action to be taken at all steps of the design, production, trade, consumption, and disposal of goods, encouraging sustainable consumption, improving the life cycle of products, and avoiding waste.

The benefits of adopting a business model based on the circular economy are manifold:
- Creation of new business opportunities/profits;
- Creation of new business models, such as rentals or leasing contracts;
- Creation of new jobs (such as labor-intensive recycling activities);
