The recent advances in consumer technologies have also resulted in development of technologies related to neuroscience called neurotechnologies or neurotech. As a result, cheaper and reliable consumer neurotech devices are becoming available and are being demonstrated in the famous Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Los Angeles and Berlin every year. These neurotech devices allow the capture of signals (electroencephalogram or EEG) directly from the brain and correspondingly various software applications related to mental health are being developed to assess mood, emotion, stress etc of a person. Similarly, consumer neurotech devices and mobile apps are being developed for intervention to address the mental health issues. However, the biggest challenge in assessment lies in developing biomarkers and neuromarkers that can be used for the detection of early signs and symptoms related to mental health. Similarly, the challenge in intervention lies in optimizing the intervention techniques for an individual (personalized medicine). All of these challenges are critical for preventive mental health.

Future lies in the preventive mental health that will lead to healthcare continuum system. Preventive mental health involves assessment and detection of early signs and symptoms related to mental health using biomarkers and neuromarkers. There are many issues related to early detection of signs and symptoms, for example, a person does not visit a clinician (medical doctor) for early detection of mental health issues, a person does not seek help because of the stigma associated with mental diseases etc. Hence, the role of consumer technologies and correspondingly consumer neuortechnologies (or neurotech) become significant that allow a person to assess and track their mental health from the comfort of their homes. This is the first goal that this Research Topic will deal with, that is, role of consumer neurotech in the assessment and detection of early signs and symptoms related to mental health issues through development of biomarkers and neuromarkers. Once such signs and symptoms are detected, next step is intervention. Again, a person should be empowered to utilize the consumer neurotech from the comfort of their home for intervention purposes. This is the second goal that this Research Topic will deal with, that is, role of consumer neurotech in intervention to deal with the early signs and symptoms of mental health issues.

The following is the scope of this Research Topic:
1. Consumer neurotech, ECG, BVP and peripheral signals devices for signal acquisition and analysis
2. Biomarkers for assessment and detection of signs and symptoms for early detection of mental health issues like stress, anxiety, depression, memory etc
3. Neuromarkers for assessment and detection of signs and symptoms for early detection of mental health issues like stress, anxiety, depression, memory etc
4. Consumer neurotech (devices, mobile apps etc) for intervention to address mental health issues
5. Methods and techniques for intervention that lead to personalized treatment related to mental health issues
6. Application of signal processing, image processing, machine learning, deep learning, and evolutionary computation for early detection of mental health issues
7. Mathematical models for early detection of mental health issues
8. Any topic related to preventive mental health and the consumer neurotech

Keywords: Consumer Technology, Preventive Mental Health, Neurotech, Diagnosis, Prognosis
