Over the past decade, technological and computational advances in genomics have enabled a revolution in our understanding of infectious diseases.

Direct application of this knowledge has led to the real-time identification of new pathogens, the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms involved in pathogenesis, and the rapid design of new vaccines.

Our overarching goal is to leverage the lessons learned from the use of Genomics in other fields in order to accelerate basic and applied research of Tropical Diseases.

In order to achieve this goal, authors are invited to identify current gaps in the knowledge of Tropical Diseases and devise strategies where Genomics can advance the field, illustrate the application of Genomics, and discuss future challenges.

The topic encourages themes on the application of Genomics to Tropical Diseases, including, but not limited to areas such as:

• Genome-wide association studies

• Pathogen identification

• Molecular epidemiology

• Investigation of Host-pathogen interactions

• Identification of transcriptomics signals of innate immunity

• Profiling of the adaptive immunity repertoire

• Single cell analysis

• Vaccine development

• Systems biology and multi-omics analysis

Original articles, Reviews, Perspectives and Systematic Reviews / Meta-analyses are welcome.

Keywords: Genomics, GWAS, Next-Generation Sequencing, Transcriptomics, RNA-seq, Parasitology, Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology, Vaccines, Systems Biology, Multi-omics, Innate immunity, Immune Repertoire, Host-Pathogen Interaction

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
