Frontiers in Psychiatry is proud to present our Case Reports series. Our Case Reports aim to highlight unique cases of patients that present with an unexpected/unusual diagnosis, treatment outcome, or clinical course.?Case Reports provide insight into the differential diagnosis, decision-making, and clinical management of unusual cases and are a valuable educational tool. It seems crucial to us to pay attention to the analysis of the unique personal psychological experiences of individuals, which are often so unlike the general trends in the development of social psychiatry and psychology.
Anxiety disorders are among the most commonly diagnosed mental disorders. They are often comorbid with a wide range of physical and mental illnesses and pose significant challenges in terms of diagnosis, management, and ensuring optimal outcomes. Due to the significant degree of heterogeneity in this patient population, treatment approaches need to be tailored to the biological, psychological, and social factors of relevance to a given individual.
The goal of this Research Topic is to collect in-depth clinical case reports of patients with anxiety disorders in relation to stress. We propose a discussion for questions relating to all aspects of anxiety and stress including unique personal mental experiences such as the example of two global social crises that have shaken humanity in the last three years: the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The potential focus of these case reports could include unusual presentations (e.g., cultural variants in the symptomatology or reporting of anxiety), examinations of the links between stress and anxiety in an individual case, diagnostic challenges (e.g., identification of anxiety disorders in the setting of traumatic stress, where they may be comorbid with post-traumatic stress disorder), and novel or innovative approaches to pharmacological or psychotherapeutic management. Particular emphasis is placed on contemporary biopsychosocial approaches to anxiety and stress, as well as on cases that have potential relevance from an academic, clinical, or research perspective.
This Research Topic will only accept Case Reports or Community Case Studies but also relevant Opinions and Perspectives may be considered, all manuscripts must be original with the aim to significantly advance the field to be considered. We welcome contributions that cover all aspects of Anxiety and Stress and concomitant clinical situations
