Rapid urbanization in large cities across the world, whether emerging or established, places enormous strain on existing infrastructure, one of which is the Sustainable Materials Management (SMM). The amount of Solid Materials generated is outpacing the capacity of current infrastructures. One of the primary reasons for the inappropriate execution of rules and regulations in developing countries is a lack of understanding of the numerous available technologies, best management practices, and the principles of SMM. Innovative waste collection, treatment, recycling, and disposal solutions must be implemented in a developing country to build a SMM system. All aspects of planning and constructing an integrated solid waste management (ISWM) system, including technical, political, environmental, economic, legal, and cultural issues, must be considered when developing a sound system for waste management.

In this research topic, the core ideas of SMM, as well as the different component systems (collection, transportation, processing, and disposal) and their integration are welcomed. MSW treatment, processing, and disposal are all covered in this research topic. It also covers the new design and futuristic treatment possible in this field. Furthermore, it also touches on the essential features successful SMM system highlighting the key role of different design parameters. This VSI give a fundamental introduction to waste materials management, which includes its generation, as well as its makeup, features, and possible future situations in developing nations and its impact on achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Case studies can also be part of the research topic in-order to fully understand the practical aspect of the treatment and modelling.

Current treatment methods and expected future approaches

New and innovative treatment technologies for SMM.

Resources recovery and space utilization, reducing the negative health impacts.

Economics of upgrading the existing treatment technologies based on reducing their negative effects.

Cleaning environment and converting waste into cash.

Understand the practical solutions to waste management.

Deal with environmental protection and law improvement systems

Keywords: Environmental pollution, Solid Waste Management, SWM, Hazardous Waste, Electronic Waste Management, EWM, Sustainable Concrete, Plastic Waste Management, PWM, Life-Cycle Assessment, LCA
