About this Research Topic
The imbalance between the generation and elimination of ROS triggers oxidative stress, which can damage nucleic acids, proteins, and cellular structures and ultimately cause apoptosis. In the central nervous system, oxidative stress has been related to several conditions such as hypoxia and hypoglycemia, epilepsy, brain tumorogenesis, and several neurogenerative diseases (such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Hence, redox signaling pathways and molecules are potential therapeutic targets for neuronal injury.
This Research Topic aims to broaden our knowledge of the mechanisms mediating and modulating antioxidant defenses and emerging approaches to prevent the production of oxidants in neuronal injury. It also welcomes studies targeting these pathways as therapies in CNS diseases such as:
- Migraine and Headache Disorders
- Ischemic and Haemorrhagic Stroke
- Neurodegenerative Diseases
- Epilepsy and Other Paroxysmal Neurologic Disorders
- Neonatal hypoxia
- Febrile seizure
- Brain injury – traumatic and secondary
- Brain tumors
